My father was from Dufftown and came to Australia in the early 50’s to work as an engineer. When I first visited Scotland in 1985 I was given a bundle of music that had been used by my father’s cousins – Alex, Helen and Peg Nicoll – when they played for local dances. Amongst these were many tunes written by local fiddler Jack Fleming. I had the pleasure of
meeting Jack’s daughter Margaret Mcara and grandson Gordon McDonald in Huntly on our recent tour and I thank them for permission to record these tunes. The first three tunes are written about local Dufftown landmarks. Many thanks to Mike and Margaret McConachie and the Dufftown community for all their work in support of our gig in Dufftown
during our tour of Scotland in 2015. I would like to dedicate this set of tunes to the memory of my parents – Jim and Pauline McConnachie.
